  • By Air: The nearest airport is Shillong Airport (Umroi Airport). But most people use Guwahati Airport in Assam, which is about 3 hours away by road.

    By Train: Meghalaya does not have its own railway station. The nearest railway station is Guwahati Railway Station in Assam. From there, you can take a taxi or bus to Shillong.

    By Road: Meghalaya has good roads connecting it to Guwahati and other cities. You can take a bus, shared taxi, or private car from Guwahati to Shillong. The road trip is very scenic with green hills on both sides.

Itinerary

Begin your journey with a pickup from Guwahati Airport or Railway Station and drive towards the beautiful hill station of Shillong, popularly known as the Scotland of the East. On the way, visit the scenic Umiam Lake (Barapani), where you can enjoy breathtaking views and optional boating. After reaching Shillong, check in to your hotel and spend the evening exploring the local markets and nearby attractions. Enjoy an overnight stay in Shillong.

After breakfast, proceed towards Cherrapunji (Sohra), one of the wettest places on Earth. En route, visit the famous Elephant Falls and Shillong Peak, which offers panoramic views of the city and surrounding hills. Continue your drive to Cherrapunji and explore its breathtaking natural beauty before checking in to your hotel for an overnight stay.

Start your day early for the adventurous Double Decker Living Root Bridge Trek at Nongriat Village. This famous trek takes you through lush forests, suspension bridges, and scenic waterfalls. If time and energy permit, you can also visit the stunning Rainbow Falls, known for its crystal-clear water and picturesque surroundings. Return to your hotel in Cherrapunji for an overnight stay.
